A Better Bednet
The idea for The Better Bednet came from personal experience living in Africa and from listening to the thoughts and ideas of those living in poverty in Nairobi, Kenya and especially in the slum Kibera. For too many people, the traditional bednet does not make sense with the reality of their daily lives and living situation. No bed. No ceiling. Transitioning constantly. Sleeping outside, on couches, on the streets.
The innovative design of The Better Bednet will provide a more relevant way to protect people from mosquitos and malaria. It will makes sense for their lives and will help keep them healthy. That’s what it's all about.
WHY: There are over 90 million kids in developing countries who still do not use a bednet and are not protected from malaria. And there are millions more people of all ages who are not using bednets properly or at all. Too many people are using bednets for fishing nets, backpacks, and other reasons that do not protect them from malaria, which kills millions of people every year. On top of that, the traditional bednet does not make sense for the lives of those at the bottom of extreme poverty. What are people without beds supposed to do with a traditional bednet? What are those people who live outside in the street supposed to do with a traditional bednet? This product as it is currently designed is not good enough.
So let's make a better one. Let's make a bednet that makes more sense for the lives of those on the bottom of extreme poverty. Let's make a bednet that is designed specifically to be used as a protection against malaria.
